If you have rowed before, you’ll be able to further your rowing by joining our Senior Squad. We currently have around 50 senior members competing in a range of sweep and scull boats at competitions nationwide. These squads are overseen by Head Coach Cam Kennedy, Assistant Coach Ed Bloomfield, a group of volunteer coaches and the Senior Captains.
If you are male and have experience rowing either at school or with a club, the Senior Men’s squad is the place for you! We have recently welcomed a brand new coaching team to work with our senior rowers, having a development coaching team for the first time in our history to ensure strong competition for the top boat seats. Last year we added a brand new Empacher 8+ and Filippi 4+ to our new boathouse on a beautiful stretch of the River Avon.
We have an impressive history of wins, BUCS medals and GB representation, which we aim to increase over the coming years. To find out more, please get in touch with Mens’ Captain, Arthur Smith, on our contact page.
Have you rowed before and want to take your sport to the next level? Our Senior Womens’ squad is growing faster than any other here at UBBC, and this year promises to be the most exciting yet. We have new Filippi 4+ and a new Wintech racing 1x, and brand new Hudson racing women’s 8+ was just added to the fleet.
With nineteen athletes going through to quarter-finals at Henley Women’s Regatta last season, and our first eight pushing Newcastle to a course record and finishing the fastest semi-finalists at HWR, 2017 is the year to get involved. The Women’s Captain this year is Alice Lovett, find her email address on the contact page.
If you have never been in a boat before, then the hugely successful “Learn to Row” program at the University of Bristol is a great place to start and show you what rowing is all about.
Fancy a challenge? The Novice Mens’ squad aims to get guys who have never rowed before to a competitive level in just a few months. The training can be quite intense, but it will only be a matter of weeks before you start to see the results. In fact, half of the Senior Men’s top boat started rowing in the Novice squads.
Rowing provides an opportunity for talented young women with no rowing experience to progress to high levels of competition. Olympic Gold Medal rowers such as Helen Glover and Heather Stanning started rowing for the first time at University (on the same stretch of river we train on!). Rowing provides great fitness and our Novice women have a stellar competitive record, winning Varisty and medals at BUCS Regatta.
Charlotte Greenwood is the Novice Captain this year, and will be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have. Get in contact with her via her email address in the contacts section.
